Profile

Five decades of communication leadership

Wole Adamolekun, PhD is a Professor of Mass Communication at Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, Nigeria. He has more than fifty years of experience in corporate communications across the downstream petroleum sector, microcredit administration, the National Youth Service Corps, socio-political communication, and strategic and crisis communication.

He spent over four decades in top management positions in strategic organisations, actively participating in policy formulation and execution and rising to the positions of Interim Executive Secretary/CEO and General Manager, Operations and Corporate Services.

Academic Life

Teaching the theory—and the lived practice

Professor Adamolekun is an international professional teacher and facilitator in public relations, strategic and crisis communication, management and entrepreneurship. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses - including PGD, MSc and PhD programmes - across Mass Communication, particularly Public Relations and Advertising, Strategic Communication and Crisis Management.

His teaching spans Public Relations and Advertising, Strategic Communication, Crisis Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, International Public Relations, Tourism Communication and Mass Communication research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Executive Service

Policy formulation, regulation and management

Across four decades in strategic organisations, he participated directly in policy formulation and execution. His public-service career covered the National Youth Service Corps, the Directorate for Social Mobilisation, community banking and downstream petroleum regulation.

At the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, he rose through senior management to become General Manager, Operations and Corporate Services, having also served as Interim Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer.

Scholarship

Books, chapters and peer-reviewed research

He has authored or co-authored four public relations books, fifteen chapters in public relations and communication books, and several scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals worldwide. His ORCID is 0000-0003-2819-7485; his articles are SCOPUS-rated and featured on Google Scholar. He has also published widely in magazines, newspapers and online journals.

His published work addresses public relations practice, social responsibility, sustainable development, strategic communication, crisis communication, corporate reputation and communication education.

His international professional service includes former Secretary General of the African Public Relations Association; Board Member and Chair of the Academic and Research Council of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management; Board Member of the Commission for Public Relations Education; Senior Member of the International Public Relations Association; and memberships and fellowships across NIPR, NIM, APRA, PRSA and CIPR.

At Elizade University, he has served at different times as Interim Dean of Student Affairs, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Director of Academic Planning.
